As a life coach who focuses on helping clients find their passionate work, the question is often asked: “How does my purpose tie into my passion?” It’s a great question and one that can be fun to discuss, especially with a life coach like me who believes that purpose and passion work together, not one verses the other.
Passion and Purpose Defined
Passion is defined by Webster as 1) a great feeling; 2) enthusiasm. When we look at these definitions and begin to think about the things we are passionate about, it does usually revolve around things we feel great about and/or things we are enthusiastic about. Purpose on the other hand is defined by Webster as: 1) an intended or desired result; 2) a goal. Now if you put those two definitions together, you’ll see that our purpose is tied to our passion.
Spiritual Definition
Now if we were to take this a step further and dig a bit deeper into the meaning of purpose, we realize that our purpose is to do the will of God. Our creator designed and created us for specific purpose and often times our passions are part of our purpose because the things we are passionate about usually revolve around our natural gifts – which are a part of who we are. And who we are is part of why you’re here…your purpose in life.
As I mentioned above, I think passion and purpose overlap and are intertwined. Your passion can grow out of your purpose, but the key to this whole conversation we’re having about these two words is to find out what God wants you to do. When you start the journey of self discovery, your purpose and passion are revealed and you’ll begin to see how all things work together for the good of those who love God and are called according to His purpose (that’s Romans 8:28).
The Journey
Now that we know that these two connect to each other, the next part is to figure out how. That’s where a good Christian life coach comes in (hint hint). Most of us get so busy and caught up in our lives, we don’t take the time to figure out our passion or our purpose. Some people know what their purpose and passion is, but others haven’t got a clue. To find your passion, it takes a commitment to a journey that will reveal itself over time. But you have to commit to the process of exploring yourself.
When I started the journey, God revealed so much to me and those revelations have led me to where I am today, as a life coach. Because I didn’t really have a road map for the journey, it took me a while to travel the different roads, but once I did, God gave me the vision to help others on this fascinating journey. You see, my passion and purpose is to help you find your passion and purpose and then help you begin to live it.
Discover
Discovering your passion is an exciting and revealing journey that when revealed, often makes you wonder: “what took me so long to start this journey…to pursue my passion?”
But it’s okay. It’s never too late to take the journey.
Be Blessed, Be Encouraged, Pursue Passion!
